WOAH BABY!

Hi Everyone!

It's been months since I last blogged because this soon-to-be-mama changed to official "mommy status".  My baby was born on November 3, 2015 at 3:17 pm.  That was an experience.  I'll go into my birth story another time.

The moment she left my womb and entered our world, I knew I had another job waiting for me.  It wasn't just the title "mom", but to be her protector, her teacher, and one of the people who will love her the most.

So here I am introducing to the internet world, my little KaraBear.

Year 1: Woah!

J+L Anniversary Dinner @ Orange Hill Restaurant
The view was AMAZING!
8.3.15

A year ago, I married the best guy in the world.  He was my perfect one.  I know we are both full of flaws, but somehow when we are together, those flaws don't show.  I am so happy to have married my true best friend.

Our Year 1 was quite eventful.  I started my new job at a new school and a new grade.  That alone was a challenge.  However, with his support and the support of those I work with, my first year was a success.  We were also surprised with a little miracle.  Who would have thought during our first year of marriage, we would have been blessed with a little baby.  Not too long ago, we found out we were having a little girl.  We haven't solidified her name, but we have narrowed it down.  She will be perfect in our eyes.

As we start our Year 2, with a baby along the way, I know we will have some challenges to face ahead.  With those challenges, I know will make us only stronger.

Truly Blessed.

Nesting....Overwhelmed!!

Joey and I have been out of town for the last couple days since our house was being fumigated (what a headache!) plus to get away and celebrate our first year anniversary.

We are slowly nesting and prepping for our little girl's arrival.  If you know me well, I try to work with little money when decorating the house.  Everyone that enters the house is impressed about how well decorated the house is and at how "little" we spent to get the look.  I give Joey all of the credit for his handy-ness and motivation to make things.  It pays to have someone creative and handy around the house.

Now that the house has been tented, we can move forward to get the inside organized.  I'm a bit overwhelmed.  There is food in the living room (since we packed everything away), baby stuff to sort, and no gas in the house!  I want to do laundry but have no "easy" was to dry the items.  A little frustrating, I think?  Maybe I'll try the laundromat but would hate to lug everything around.

Between trying to get the house in order, I am also trying to get my classroom ready for another great school year.  I haven't even started but have a list of to-do's that need to happen before the end of the month.  Today was suppose to be my first day back... but another day or two or week off shouldn't hurt... or will it?!

I guess today is all about catching up and just going with the flow...

Ok, here's to cleaning!

It's a....

Joey and I savored out little secret for a good month.  We were very careful on how we phrased our responses whenever we spoke about our little one.  This past weekend, we were able to share our news with the family.

My Biggest Project for 2015

I've been trying really hard for the last 2 years to "get my health back".  I have dealt with issues associated with PCOS and have shared my story on Facebook regarding my success using Youngevity's 90 for Life Nutritional Supplements.

This blog has been silent for the last couple months because I have been working on a project called
"Project BabyCakes".  Today, I'm here to share with you the results of this project....

Here is my Facebook Excerpt:
I've been pretty silent about this because truthfully I'm just physically tired...all the time...and to construct my thoughts requires effort haha...
I wanted to give Youngevity credit for why I'm pregnant today. A little over year ago... I found out I had "issues" that required fertility treatments to have a "mini me". That was kinda hard to hear because it was one of my goals in life... I mean I became a teacher because I love working with children but to be told that it may be impossible to have my own was hard to swallow. Given that I work for a Catholic school...some types of fertility treatments can mean losing my job (against church practices)....plus my insurance most likely won't cover it and financially not smart to fund it on my own. I turned to Youngevity because I had nothing to lose... And truth be told, I really was skeptical.
After a year on the products, a healthier diet (not perfect)... And within 6 months of being married...I'm here with a growing miracle inside me. I thought it would take a lot longer and require more patience but no...it's here.
When I found out I was pregnant I decided to give Youngevity a break to make sure it was "safe". After a 2 month break, I got sick 2 times instantly (remember I work with tiny kids who haven't mastered covering their mouth and blowing into a Kleenex)... I'm exposed to their adorable germy bodies that love to give me hugs all day... I've been coughing, sniffing, sneezing...And days when I've felt like a truck ran over me (part of that I give credit to being pregnant)...
Today, my OB gave me the green light to continue to take my Youngevity products...in fact he said "wow this is good stuff, where do you get it?" I left feeling happy as I felt lost without taking my products... I can't wait to get back on it and gain my energy and health back.
I like my MD... I wish I can keep him forever!

Today I am currently 21 weeks.  I survived the first trimester without much trouble - except extreme tiredness. They weren't joking when they say you'll feel really tired!  So far my second trimester is treating me well.  I am back to myself which is great during my summer vacation.

We have been working diligently on the baby's room.  With lots of help from friends, the room is slowly making progress.  I will share photos with you soon.

Las Vegas Teachers' Convention vs. San Diego Comic Con

Year after year, I have either attended the SDE Conference  or the Teacher's Pay Teachers Conference in Las Vegas.  How jealous I am of those teachers there today!  Who says you can never mix work and play?!  Teachers work hard, but they also play hard!  I am missing out on the teacher fun this year due to the San Diego Comic Con.  Of course they landed during the same week and Joey and I can only pick one for the week.  He wins.  I must surround myself around "cool-geekery".  I can't want to see all the awesome artwork of many talented artists.

Teacher Tuesday: Puzzle Tips

I have been working at my new school for the last 5 months.  I have finally tackled the closet!  As you know, teachers love to hoard things and we especially have the mentality of "we'll use this next year".  For the most part, we all know we don't end up using it next year!!

The closet I inherited was not messy, but at the same time, it wasn't organized in a way that my brain works.  So the first thing I tackled in my closet was the puzzles!  There were some in boxes, baskets, and plastic bags.  My first priority with puzzles is that it's useful, all the pieces are complete, and easy access.  I decided to purge the puzzles.  I tossed puzzles with missing pieces.  What's the point in keeping them when the kids will feel defeated when they were all done only to find out they were missing that 1 or 2 pieces. (Ok, so maybe the puzzles with missing pieces could have been used for another activity... but at this rate, I'm just purging.  I'll regret it later... maybe.)

Tip #1: Bag 'em!
I decided to bag all puzzles and toss the box.  I work with 4 and 5 year olds which means fine motor development is still in progress.  Regular zip bags (without a zipper tab) don't work so well in this age group.  I find it that the bags are partially left opened and pieces tend to fall out.  Let's face it, we need to make our lives easier.  I decided to go to my local Target and purchase the the bags with the zipper.  I like the Up &Up Target brand because it is plain... as in, all clear with just an area that "date and contents".  I could live without that.  I like the red zipper which means "close me" or "open me".  I'm not being paid by Target to vouch for their product.  It's purely my preference to pay less and have it highly functional. (Plus I'm guilty of being a Target-aholic!)  You can buy the ZipLoc or Hefty brand and I'm sure it works just as well (or may be better, who knows!).

Tip #2: Puzzles for older children can work with these little guys too!
This puzzle tip works wonders.  I inherited puzzles that were meant for older children.  Sometimes there are way too many pieces or they don't have a frame to help with boundaries of the puzzles.  I decided to make puzzles dual purpose.

1) To understand how to put a puzzle together.
2) To be able to put a puzzle together with little to no help.

Tip #2 is really important to me.  I have 20 four-year-olds in my class and 1 aide.  I can't really help a child who is at the puzzle center while I'm working in my small groups.  So to make them feel successful, I coded the back of the puzzle.  Some puzzles have numbers 1 to 20* (or depending how many pieces).  Since they need to master numbers 1-30 before the end of the school year, I have puzzles that range from 2 pieces to 30 pieces.  I also have challenge puzzles that have more, but that's for later in the school year.  I wrote the numbers on the back of the puzzles from left to right.  This reinforces that we read and write from left to right.
*You can also use the alphabet and have them put it together from left to right.

For those learning puzzles that have you match to make a pair, I coded the back with the capital letter matched with a lowercase letter.  For example, piece 1 will have A and piece 2 will have a.  You can also use numbers.  The first piece can have the numeral and the second piece can have dots (array) to represent the number.  For the older children you can have words using a prefix, root/base word, and suffix.

I will add more tips for puzzles as I come across them.

How do you use puzzles with your own children or classroom?  Share your ideas!
