Finally being the me I wish to be

It's November!  Where did time go?  2014 was one busy year for me.  I had my wedding to plan for which was crazy enough in itself.  As much as I loved some parts of the wedding planning process,  I loved the "craftivity" that I was able to be hands on 100% of the time (minus the day of) of the entire wedding process.  I miss the crafting and the personalization of it all, but I am ready to move forward as a married someone.

So here's the run down... While in the midst of planning a wedding, I was ready to escape my teaching job.  I was burnt out and ready to do something else.  A part of me wasn't sure if it was teaching or if it was the environment that was burning me out.  Fortunately, I was hired by another school and was given the opportunity to teach 4-year-old kids and I am LOVING it!  I am able to use my creativity in my classroom once again.  With that said, I am starting to build my TeachersPayTeachers store with more items that are appropriate for preschool and kindergarten. Allergies in Full Effect

Let's be honest here.  I am allergic to my own dog!  I picked out my dog, Cotton, a maltipoo because he was "hypoallergenic".  Apparently not!

I love him to pieces, but spending too much time cuddling with him turns me into a sneezing machine.  My eyes water, my nose stuffs up, and it's the end of me!  I usually take Allergra-D to remedy my state.  Other "weaker" meds don't work for me.  I've done the prescription nasal sprays, those were just nasty and the worst part, it didn't work.

This is a must-do for next year!  I think it's simple enough for a 4 and 5 year old to do!  If I can't wait an entire year, why not make one for Patriot's Day on September 11!

It's been a while

Hello.  Yes, I'm here.
Wedding planning is driving my crazy.  (Sometimes I do feel like the picture above! LOL)  Lots has happened with the wedding since I last posted.  Projects galore are completed!  I can't wait to share those DIY stuff.  Joey and I have an Etsy store with nothing in it (!!) but hope to put items online once the wedding in complete.  I have so much on my plate (but who on this Earth doesn't?)

I could totally use a personal assistant right about now.

129 Days from now I'll be a Mrs....something?

To change my name or not?  How many of you opt to keep your name?  Since I'm getting married at a "later age", everything pretty much has my last name.  From the library books that I've purchased for my classroom to my teaching credential, college transcripts and so forth.  I feel like I have established my career with my name.

 However, I don't want to raise (my) kids and have a different last name from them.  I'm just having visions of historical chaos and families having to line up by last name and my entire family is lined up without me.  I'm sure I've watched too many movies that have corrupted my mind.  From a teacher's stand point, it happens more often than not.  Many of my students have different last names from their moms... It's cultural or by choice.  Even though it's common in my classroom, it's still a little odd for me.  Something I'm not sure how to address them... they are married so they are a Mrs... but Mrs. what?  or is that Ms.?

I can always hyphenate but it'll just make my name so much longer!  It is an option that I'm leaning towards but am still unsure.

What would you do?  To change your name or not to change your name?  Or hyphenate?!

As teachers, we know that students love constant positive reinforcement.  A little notepad I  use in my classroom is the Super Reader Notepad.  I print out a couple of these and have them handy at my desk.  When students are discouraged or having a difficult time with reading, I slip them a note to tell them how wonderful they are at reading and identify their strength.  A little note changes their outlook.  This also can help boost an already strong reader to continue to work hard.  Positive reinforcement is the best way to help students grow with pride.
